ACTION & LINKING VERBS

A verb is a "doing" word.

There are two kind of verbs:
Action verbs: when the subject does something
Two actors danced across the stage

Linking (being) verbs: when the verb gives more information about the subject
                                            The woman appeared nervous

In the first sentence turned works as an action verb
In the second sentence turned works as a linking verb
